Sitting at the core of all Kabira products is Fluency, Kabira’s highly scalable, high availability transaction platform. This platform provides the performance, ease of integration and reliability that is part of all Kabira solutions. Fluency delivers unmatched volume, transaction speed and low latency to each of Kabira’s products by using in-memory processing for all transactions, data and business logic.

In order to handle the most demanding loads, Kabira focused on building transactionality into Fluency as part of its in-memory data cache. This means that Fluency can handle heavy transaction loads without having to access any external resource and ultimately ensuring that transactions have minimum latency, and high throughput with guaranteed data integrity. Inside Fluency’s architecture there are a number of elements that ensure this transactional capability.

• Memory-based computing. The best way to provide the highest available computing performance is to remove spinning disks and network hops, and instead to do all of the computation in memory. Business logic acting on memory takes at most a few microseconds, while access to a database takes at least a few milliseconds. That’s an improvement of 1000 times.
• Transactional Control. In order to allow parallel access to this big chunk of memory, there must be transactional control. This ensures that parallel program threads can access the data space safely and without affecting one another.
• Events based architecture. In a world which appears synchronous to us humans, under the covers computers can best view the world as asynchronous events. Its event-based architecture helps the Fluency Transaction platforms scalability on multi-core systems. And an open architecture allows for these events to be mapped to a myriad of protocols, both standard and proprietary.
• Logic abstraction. Handling huge data sets, transactions, and events is daunting work for the best of programmers. In order to allow programmers to customize Kabira systems, and yet have direct, easy and transactional use of the data sets meant that Kabira needed to provide an abstraction level above the raw technology.
• High Availability Module Support. Memory based computing is fast, but that memory only has a lifespan until the next inadvertent kicked plug. Kabira solves this problem with a High Availability (HA) module which mirrors key data transactionally between two or more Kabira nodes.

As compared to a traditional relational database management system, Fluency’s in-memory database architecture results in:

• A much higher level of throughput before any catastrophic threshold is reached
