Kabira Technologies Joins Cisco® Technology Developer Program
Kabira Provides Deep Packet Inspection Capabilities for Cisco’s CSG – Reduces Revenue Leakage and Service Billing Errors
San Mateo, CA, — July 24, 2008 - Kabira Technologies, Inc., a leader in high performance transaction processing software for global enterprises, today announced that it has been appointed a member of Cisco’s Technology Developer Program. As part of the Technology Developer Program requirements, Kabira® has developed enhancements to its memory-resident, highly available convergent charging platform to support a direct interface with Cisco Content Services Gateway 2nd Generation (CSG2).
Carriers face the challenge of dealing with large subscriber bases, very high volumes of call data records (CDRs), and the need to support multiple diverse data services at varying price points – price points that can differ by time of day, available bandwidth, subscriber account type, handset configuration and a host of other factors. Traditional mediation and charging systems are either highly constrained, customized implementations, or require expensive databases, servers, and clustering technologies in order to support next-generation networks and services.
“To maintain the degree of extreme performance and flexibility Cisco’s CSG2 offers, it’s essential that the billing mediation agents and quota servers working with CSG2 perform at the same level,” said Chris Clabaugh, Vice President of Business Development at Kabira. “The combination of Cisco’s CSG2 and the Kabira Charging™ product enables carriers to quickly implement, deliver, and charge for new high-value on-line services, reduce over-the-top revenue losses, improve end-user service experience, and enhance real-time fraud reduction capabilities.”
According to Kabira’s wireless customers, some of their subscribers are hesitant to utilize new data-intensive services because they are concerned that they may incur unexpected charges. On the other hand, prepaid subscribers, who form more than 60% of all wireless subscribers worldwide, have quickly come to expect a variety of new services in addition to voice. Carriers find that they must be able to continually bring new product and pricing plans to market to retain these customers. By deploying the Kabira Charging product with Cisco’s CSG2, carriers can better address the needs of the exploding on-line, real time content access marketplace and capture their share of its growing value.
Running on multi-core servers from Sun Microsystems with the Solaris 10 operating system, or X86-64-based servers with Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 5, the Kabira Charging product connects directly to Cisco CSG2 blades on either Cisco Catalyst 6500-series switches or Cisco 7600-series routers.
